Whatever your intention in travelling to the Lake District there is something for everyone. Scales Plantation is far enough away to escape the crowds and close enough to access the best there is to see. Blencathra and Skiddaw are the closest mountains. Most walks can be shortened or lengthened depending on experience and expectation.

Keswick is nearby which is popular location with visitors and Penrith is a bustling market town thriving with local life. From Keswick you can also drive through into the central Lakes and visit Grasmere and onwards to Ambleside and Windermere.
